All eyes are on the Supper-Middleweight’s World Boxing Super Series and here is our George Groves Vs. Chris Eubank Jr Preview. The fight is happening in the Manchester Arena on February 17th. Chris Eubank Jr goes head-to-head against the WBA champion George Groves. This is what is making headlines in British boxing.

George Groves has 27 wins, 3 losses and 20 KOs under his belt. His opponent, Chris Eubank Jr has 26 wins, 1 loss and 20 KOs. These two certainly seem to be evenly matched. But who stands the better chance at winning the title for the super-middleweights? That is what we hope to find out.

Anthony Crolla, the former lightweight champion had something to say about the match. He predicts that the two fighters have a 50/50 chance to win.

The Fighters

Let’s start with Groves. To become world champion, he had to win against Fedor Chudikov. He ended the match with a TKO. The quarter final match saw him go against Jamie Cox, where Cox was halted in the 4th round with a powerful body shot from George Groves.

Eubank on the other hand, joined the 168-pound division quite recently. His previous matches were mainly middleweight. His last fight against WBO champion Billy Joe Saunders ended in a defeat. Eubank who is now 28 years old, however, was successful at beating Anvi Yildirim which earned him a place in the semi-finals.

Whichever of these two great fighters wins the match will proceed to meet up with the winner of the other semi-finals taking place on February 24th where Callum Smith meets up with Juergen Braehmer in Germany.

Both Eubank and Groves have excellent skills, and anyone can expect the match to be nothing short of spectacular. It explains why the Manchester Arena tickets are completely sold out. Their main goal is to stand a chance at winning the Muhammad Ali Trophy which will be competed for in May in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Speaking of the Manchester arena, the place will be packed to brim with over 20,000 fans.

Champions

Groves is well aware that his WBO title is on the line. Eubank also knows that his IBO title could very well slip from his possession. The bookmakers seem to already have their favourite on this one. Eubank has been priced at 4/6 by Betfair to win this weekend.

Going back to the match against the Turk, Yildirim, there is no doubt that Eubank finished spectacularly …bombarding his opponent with punches that were simply overwhelming and ending the match with a knockout.
Lets now look at Groves. Unlike Eubank, he had to fight back and forth between good and not so great performances. He finally got a good punch in to secure his win. Some could even say that this was a lucky punch, but with Eubank, there no doubt that his opponent could not take the heat.

Groves had something to say about his opponent’s fighting style. He described it as too open. With all that over-commitment to throwing punches, he leaves plenty of room to get to his chin which could be all that is needed to knock Eubank out.

World Super Series

Already this shows the experience of Groves, and he will definitely be ready to study his opponent’s weaknesses and exploit them to the fullest.
Chris Eubank however, is basing his analysis on his opponent’s behaviour after the fight. He describes Groves as lacking confidence in his last fight and looking relieved after he won as though he wasn’t sure he was going to win in the first place. He says that Groves should be stone-faced at all times.

Eubanks has enjoyed a series of 8 wins without losses. Most believe that he is at the peak of his performance.
Back in 2013, George Groves lost a rematch against Carl Froch. A second loss came from a match with Badou Jack, the WBC champion. From then on, Groves has had a series of 6 wins.

When the match is on, we can expect Eubank to use his devastating speed against Groves while also using his feet to quickly get himself out of harms way. His opponent George Groves will likely be throwing punches on the outside, making use of straight shots to take up his points. While Groves is slower with the hands, he is quick with his feet which could work to his advantage.
